One Thousand Words: Photos by Geoff Sowrey

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Capital of Manitoba, the windiest and coldest corner (Portage and Main) in the country, the beginning (or end, depending on your direction) of the prairies, Winnipeg was, for a time, going to be one of Canada's great cities. But times, economic situations, world wars, and the ever-grinding flow of "progress" managed to steal away Winnipeg's potential glory, leaving it as more of a semi-industrial, semi-rural metropolis that stands guard at the edge of the Canadian Shield, both welcoming you to and warning you of the roads ahead.
