Erenhot Bogie Change

Erenhot Bogie Change

Mongolian and Russian trains run on a wider gauge than China (by about 100mm), which makes train cars between the two sections incompatible. You either swap trains at the crossings, or -- like the Chinese have done -- you swap out the bogies on the cars. There are three rails per track here to handle the different sized bogies.
