US Army Class S118, #195
This 2-8-2 Mikado was brought with 10 others during WWII in an effort to bolster the freight capacity on the White Pass & Yukon to allow the building of the Alcan Highway further inland, hoping to counter the apparent threat of the Japanese building air bases on the Aleutian Islands. It was used until 1946, until the WP&YR bought it in 1947. It was placed here in 1962 and has remained since as part of the Skagway Museum. Cargo cars and a caboose sit behind.
