On this day, I learned of the name "Shortie", which is Birder slang for a Short-Eared Owl. Apparently the prairies are seeing an influx of them currently, which is a bit of a rare event. Eagle-eyed Kim spotted the bird on a post at the side of the road, and I captured it through the van's window. Unfortunately, when we tried to get out, the Shortie took off and flew away.
