American Falls

The American Falls portion of Niagara Falls is, as its name suggests, wholly in the United States, and is best view from across the river in Canada. The water pouring over is only a healthy fraction of the true volume of the river. Ignoring the much larger Horseshoe Falls, a significant percentage is diverted for three hydroelectric plans (two Canadian, one American) seven kilometres downriver, and their immense reservoirs that ensure the turbines always turn.
