Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia

Once closed to all foreigners, Krasnoyarsk is slowly thawing to outsiders. It wasn’t the friendliest place when I visited it in 2005 – indeed, we tried to get out of there almost as quickly as we arrived – though there is still mystique about it from its past.
